People like to conserve the values they were raised with, every generation is the same, they also want to conserve what they have.
If you arent a progressive by the age of 20 youve got no heart and if you arent a conservative by the age of 40 you have no head...or somthing like that
The young are always naive and idealistic, as you get old you learn from experience and those teaching generally make you less trusting of things like change imo
