It is going to get very interesting if US of A do go ahead and put in place the ban (ban per se) on Russian imports ... it would be suicide IMO
If it does go ahead there is a very good chance that Russia will retaliate and stop supplying ... who's going to stop them
I'm sure the smart people making these decisions on behalf of Americans acknowledge this risk and the risk it will have in terms of flow on effects
We know USA is the largest nuclear consumer in the world, by quite a margin, and receives like 10%-15% from Russia or Russian entities
Who will fill the gap of enriched U to supply the reactors? Will they have the ability to cover the Russian supply? Will reactors have to shut down?
Energy costs would increase causing inflation to increase causing citizens to worry as interest rates may remain higher for longer ... flow on effect
With it being an election year, and Trump likely to be voted President, do the Democrats want another reason for citizens to vote Trump and risk having both the Senate and House in Republicans hands. You know what Trump would say, something like if he was President his relationship with Russia would be great, the war in Ukraine would be over, and energy security and costs would be much better under me blah blah blah
There is also talk of USA seizing ~$300 billion of Russian/Russian linked reserves outside of Russia to provide to the Ukrainians so that USA doesn't have to pass measures and supply more funding, arms etc to Ukraine
Russia and its people have been through depressions, crises, and the like, and USA might think it's a patriotic country ... but IMO not as patriotic as Russia. They have many reasons to stop supplying USA and can do at a whim. As they say 'don't poke the bear'
All this drama leads to U prices being impacted in a upward trajectory
