You can play on the same systems but you'll have to pay insto fees (which I'm almost certain you won't want to). These are businesses not charities, they wouldn't be profitable if they gave away access to the same institutional systems at retail rates. They're not going to start selling Bloomberg terminals for $10/month to make it "fair", as an example. You get what you pay for is how the world has always worked.

Also maybe I'm mistaken but you seem to be a longer term investors? I'm not sure why you would care about short term/active trading related stuff as this has no impact on stocks in the long term.
