l'd say that as Australians become much better informed they may well change their mind.
l know l did .Prior to the last couple of weeks l hadn't thought about it at all.
lt was only because of the whining by the old snowflakes that l did a bit of research. l discovered that no one really knows why it's the 26th which l found amazing . All this time and no one new why .
l laughed out loud when l realised that the perpetually offended RWNJs didn't even understand what they were complaining about.
The fact that it was the day that someone stuck a flag in the ground to establish a penal colony somewhere really doesn't have much relevance to the Australia of today.
About the only thing we do know for sure is that it pisses a whole lot of indigenous people off which is completely understandable considering the circumstances .
So, the solution is easy. Change the date .
The date has no real historical significance with regard to the formation of Australia as we know it.
lf we want to celebrate on a particularly significant and relevant day such as Jan 1 1901 then lets move it there. As least we would actually know why we are celebrating on that day.
Or we could choose a day that isn't significant and celebrate the country as it today.
Simples.
