Have to pull you over on a few of your points @Koala1959.
* Hertz - https://electrek.co/2024/01/11/hertz-invest-proceeds-selling-tesla-cars-back-into-gas-cars/
Comes down to buying at high prices and selling at much cheaper prices.
Shows that EVs are becoming more affordable, which is just what is needed for greater uptake, right?
If you read the article carefully, you'll also find out that the Teslas increased the rental company's customer satisfaction ratings.
* EVs might take off! - Tesla Model Y looks like being the biggest selling car GLOBALLY in 2023.
https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/tesla-model-y-ev-was-the-worlds-top-selling-vehicle-in-2023-144311/
So your concerns about practicality, decent range, charging and pricing seem to not resonate so much with buyers all over the planet.
* Charging costs - try this ICE v EV cost comparison tool by the NRMA - you might want to take another look at EVs!
https://www.mynrma.com.au/electric-vehicles/buying/cost-calculator
* Coal Generator - I'd say most if not all public fast charging companies all source their energy from renewable sources.
Any government part funded sites are 100% renewable:
https://www.energy.nsw.gov.au/households/guides-and-helpful-advice/electric-vehicle-fast-charging-stations:
Chargefox: https://www.mynrma.com.au/membership/benefits/chargefox#:~:text=Chargefox%20ultra%2Drapid%20EV%20chargers&text=Chargefox%20is%20Australia's%20first%20and,major%20highways%20across%20the%20country.
Tesla: https://www.tesla.com/en_au/impact/product
Take a look any day at the National Electricity Market live supply and demand, and during daylight hours the national grid's renewable component can get as high as 70%, so electricity is cleaner than petrol/diesel/LPG even if you've not got solar to do the bulk of your refuelling at home.

* Insurance - as always, shop around. My 2019 Tesla Model 3 LR costs $1650 for comprehensive. That's around what my brother's Audi S3 costs.
* Battery - the number of people requiring a full battery replacement would be very small; beware the scary super edge case stories out there!
My real world experience in an EV shows my battery's range has decreased by around 10KM over 4.5 years.
* Fuels - Synth and hydrogen unlikely. The energy used to produce them is bonkers and they're even more 'embryonic' than BEV tech.
Maybe hydrogen for shipping. https://electrek.co/2024/01/29/nikola-hydrogen-fcev-semi-completes-400-mile-trip-is-it-enough/
* Thermal risks - LFP battery chemistries cut this perceived risk when compared to nickel rich chems.
Overall though, EV's may be 100x less likely to catch fire than ICE vehicles - this is one FUD myth that is easy to break:
https://www.drive.com.au/caradvice/how-many-electric-cars-have-caught-fire-australia/
To summarise, the BEV you can buy right now is a better driving experience than an ICE car in features, quietness and pollution (try tasting the mountain air when a diesel vehicle trundles past, yuk), maintenance and fuel costs. Installing solar and maybe a battery at home allows you to generate your own 100% renewable fuel for little cost. The areas where EVs are playing catch up such as towing heavy items will get fewer as the huge R&D battery tech budgets quickly improve specs. Today's EV is not a maybe in the future car to look at, but one you can buy right now and have a bloody big smile on your face every time you drive it. A similar smile may take a little longer in the case of RNU, but investing in companies integral to the global EV transition from around 2% of the global vehicle fleet to 100% is pretty smart too IMO.
