Alhambra, first, thank you for your comments. Yes, that is the way I see it, and yes, I do keep an eye out for tigers, (the swimming type is probably a better representation of them, with regards to the stock market) and that is one of the reasons I come here, because Copperites are the best tiger spotters I have ever come across.
My investing strategy is probably a little different from most, in that I try to identify promising companies many years before they appear on the mainstream investors radar. I watch and evaluate them for a while, years sometimes, and then try to move on them when there is an inflection point, or something else reduces the risk a bit, but they are still cheap.
MBP is a good example of this as during the GFC period the share price got down to around 1.5 cents, but I didn’t buy it there because the risk of the company failing was fairly high. The inflection point for me was when they acquired an interest in PNV and even though the share price was then, multiples of 1.5 cents, it was still cheap for what you got because the risk was reduced significantly.
This one worked out for me and I have a couple of others that worked out as well (NEU and GOR) and also a bunch of work in progress ones.
Having said that, not all my choices were good, I have had some complete disasters as well, but my overriding philosophy is that you only have to hook a few big winners and then the rest don’t matter much.
A lot of my disasters were in my pre Hot Copper days and my successes have improved quite a bit since I started coming here, you can really learn a lot about a company if you are prepared to put in the legwork here, and take the time to access the research links that are put up from time to time.
Many years ago, I did do a bit of trading, but found it produced a mixed bag of results, and also was a bit time consuming and stressful, so I eventually decided to try a different strategy, and that has resulted in my being in the position I am in now. Cheers
