I don't think it's hilarious. Shorters will only back off if there is the prospect of sustained revenue in the short term. Until them they'll keep milking it for all its worth.
If you understand that, you'll have a better perspective of how they'll react to any announcements. As I've previously posted, when China issued their graphite restrictions, the SP took off but the shorters sold heavily into the volume totally unconcerned
