As you did not respond, am I to assume that you are not able to buy shares and pay in 3 days?

Many clients do this and as per ASX rules, those shares sit in the name of the brokers settlement account until paid. As many clients pay in t+3, lots of shares end up in these settlement accounts for a few days for each transaction. The number was a lot higher recently with 100 million shares traded.
