You see, D55T, in Canada professors are at the bottom of the feed chain. Especially in the underpopulated, semi-tundra prairie provinces. For extra cash they self-publish their own textbooks, often using just an inkjet printer from Office Depot, and require their students to buy it. Usually has pages to tear out for exams, to make sure it can't be resold. Eventually, the ones like BR quit to start their own labs, and "affiliate" with young entrepreneurs who think chemistry can make them rich. It's not a glamorous life, but some people prefer it.
