that said unless they were receiving fees for loaning out there holdings- this could in theory reduce their overall costs , however it’s known that only approximately 1.5% is shorted - which equates to 17 million shares roughly or a roughly 1/3 if their holdings , so no chance they have an average purchase price of 8 cents aud
