Given Russia is spending 10% of its GDP and 40% of its budget on the Ukraine war, there is increasingly negative effect on the Russian economy from the war and sanctions.

Great if you are in the war machine, shite if you are not.

GDP might be up, but if you eating into reserves for an additional military spend, well whooping do.

So no additional spending for health (same money as before but now you are dealing with all the casualties from the front) and no new infrastructure spending (same budget, but now also paying for the damage the Ukrainians are inflicting not only in Russia but in the Crimea and other occupied territories).

Only morons would try and argue Russia is better off using all their petro $s on weaponry that is getting chewed up and repeatedly replaced rather than using it on improving the lot of the average Russians.

So far not bad if you are a White Russian in St Petersburg and Moscow, but pretty crappy if you one of those 10s of millions forced to rely on an outside dunny in minus 25 degrees!

Whilst we are at, wonder why foreign orders for Russian military hardware are drying up?

Hint, it’s generally inferior and even when cheap, the Russkies can’t supply it, because you know……it’s getting chewed up in the Ukraine.
