Exciting news from PharmAust (PAA.ASX) today! They’ve increased their scientific prowess by welcoming Dr Thomas Duthy to their board, joining Roger Aston and Michael Thurn.

Tom’s increasing presence in the #neurodegenerativediseases space is noteworthy, and it seems he’s becoming a preferred choice for directorship in this sector on the ASX. It’s clear that investors are taking note, as evidenced by the share price rallies of the three companies where he serves on the board. Is it his technical acumen, impeccable timing, the rigour of due diligence or a combination - time will tell.

The neurodegenerative disease sector has been in the spotlight since Neuren Pharmaceuticals Limited (NEU.ASX) skyrocketed into the billions and Jazz Pharmaceuticals (JAZZ.NASDAQ) makes strides with its focus on rare neurological disorders in children. Jazz expects over US$1 billion in sales in 2024. Supporting the interest in the sector, their were nearly 50 deals in the Central Nervous System sector amounting to over US$13.2bn in value.

So, why invite Tom to a board? With over 19 years of financial market experience and executive-level/board roles with ASX-listed companies, Tom brings a wealth of knowledge. His background as a biotech analyst and his work in corporate advisory and investor relations in the Life Sciences and Technology sectors speak volumes. His involvement in significant transactions, such as the $100m sale of Nova Eye Medical’s Lasers & Ultrasound business and the $1.9 billion cash acquisition of Sirtex Medical Limited , underscores his strategic expertise.

Tom currently chairs Arovella (ALA.ASX), which recently shared details about a CAR-iNKT-IL12-TM, a strategic acquisition of armouring technology with pre-clinical data in neuroblastoma. ALA, with strong management from Michael Baker and Nicole van der Weerden and its strategic board, has seen Arovella’s share price increase six-fold in the last 12 months.

Tom also holds an executive director position at Neurotech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. International (NTI.ASX), a role he’s held since mid-2022. NTI’s share price has seen a significant uptick following his appointment. NTI is a #clinical-stage biopharmaceutical development company that primarily focuses on #paediatric neurological disorders. Since Tom’s arrival in September 2022, the company has shifted its business strategy towards generating rapid clinical evidence across various disease states. NTI has clinical data due and is also eyeing an #OrphanDrug Designation for rare diseases. Strong correlations with the path of PAA.
