On a somewhat lighter note, DEEDI is trying for the 'who, me?' awards with their reported statements on the
a) requirement that cattle be guaranteed free of contaminants that might have come from the Cougar site before sale
b) requiring the guarantee and taking fat samples for testing to satisfy that requirement
c) responding to a law-abiding landholder weeks later that DEEDI did not have to actually report the tests on the samples (so the landholder cannot actually certify his cattle contaminant free)
d) sending two officers around to the law-abiding citizens residence with the non-required test results and an explanation that the test cannot actually be carried out in Queensland (second officer was what? an interpreter from bureaucratese to english?)
e) being so unlucky that their report to the landholder after 4(?) weeks coincided with the landholder going to the press a second time asking about progress

DERM currently appears better organised than DEEDI although the midnight email to CXY to cease operations after Pratt asked a question in an estimates committee makes you wonder.


Last week (QCL p7, 09-9-10) it was reported that South Burnett producer John Andress (pictured) had waited almost two months for a letter of clearance after cattle blood and fat samples were tested by Biosecurity Queensland following the Cougar Energy water contamination scare in July.
