It is first to know and then to do. The dictionary definition of faith is not a complete Bible definition of Faith.
Faith is generally accepted by Christians to be a state of belief and you have to believe before Faith can manifest itself in somebodies life as a reality. Faith must then move to action, a fewness of words and an abundance of deeds. Only then is the Bible definition of Faith a reality.
Saved by Faith alone? You have believed, in Faith and you respond according to the requirements of spiritual Faith in the Teachings of Christ, and by doing so you then fulfil your unique potential as a human being. This is the meaning of being Saved. It means you have given yourself the best chance of spiritually progressing towards God after you leave this life.
Faith without deeds is like admiring a beautiful garden as you walk past. Those with real Faith enter into the garden and work in the garden to keep it beautiful.
