That's not inconsistent to me - share price being up simply means more potential upside for shorts.
I don't believe ASX short volumes like this have much impact on the SP particularly for large caps like A2M. But I do think the SP impacts on shorting behavior. Large SP gains leading into results reporting would definitely be attractive to shorts, particularly when it is so common for investors to buy the rumours and sell the news when it comes to A2M.
