The Republicans & their "Tea Party" fanatics want every one to forget that Obama came to office facing:
1) the worst financial crisis in a century;
2) the worst fiscal position since the Regan era (thanks to Republican tax cuts for the wealthy);
3) two foreign wars (the most ruinous & unnecessary in Iraq was thanks to the Republicans);
4) his promised reform to insure the health of 40million+ Americans that several presidents had taken on and failed to deliver.
Reformers throughout human history have been heaped with scorn, pelted with abuse and accused of the worst crimes that the imagination of the public would find sustain.
It will be no different with Obama.
However, his backing comes from the man-in-the-street, not from the large corporations that have traditionally held sway in Washington via their lobbyists & large political disbursements.
His strength to see the bad times through until conditions change will define the degree of his greatness.
