this article is, in my opinion, a comparatively rational summary of why debating rights and ownership of the land makes no sense.
https://www.internationalaffairs.org.au/australianoutlook/israel-and-palestine-where-should-history-begin-and-should-it-matter/ to be honest those who maintain Jewish rights over the area might well note that these historical claims to Israel which are found in a history of more then a few thousand years ago might want to consider their views on who has the rights to australia.
I am all too aware of the way that zionists build their case for ownership and it in part depends on demonstrating that Israel is indeed a god promised land for only under the Jews does the land that was called judea and Israel flourish - that under the descendants of Abraham’s other non favoured son the land becomes barren.
it is a flawed argument and as the article does a good job of pointing out that looking backwards does nothing to solve the problem.
there are millennia of stored up hatred - looks to me from the biblical writing that we can blame it all on Abraham playing favourites and doing a poor job of parenting.
what we should all be appalled at is human ability to carry on this sort of crap for generation after generation building both justification and a desire for revenge on both sides. But other countries (and individuals) interfering as if they knew right from wrong and as if they fully understood the situation and this feeding the enmity and self justification doesn’t help
of course once upon a time we just wiped out races and nations, we raped and pillaged and “disappeared bloodlines” till they were no more. Maybe we should blame it on the Romans given that all they did was disperse the Jewish inhabitants of Israel and curse them down through the generations
so should we target southern Italians instead maybe - it would make as much sense
