what rating do these towers being put up have to withstand a so called storm.
According to the news the towers were erected in the 1980's.
Since then there have been changes to standards.
The earlier standards from the 1970's and 1980's didn't consider the forces generated during convective downdraft weather events.
Hot surface air is exchanged with cooler air above to create a downburst which upon reaching the surface spreads horizontally creating destructive winds that can damage structures where they touchdown,
A previous report from an earlier similar event identified convective downdraft as the culprit.
