acorn I'm pragmatic on nuclear these days, having once been in strident opposition.
eventually some form of nuclear will be used in Aus. I think it's necessary. but it's surely won't be the extravagant cost and inefficiency of these older types. too many nimbys for such to exist in Aus. and way too expensive to supply our grid system. needing too much subsidisation by govts.
also too soon to pass a judgement on SMRs with only 3 operational and the Russian model and Chinese model being closely monitored to identify cost controls, technical problems and inefficiencies. as yet there's still no operational manufacturer producing SMR tech, no "modular" developed as yet.
as such I'm waiting to see how systems develop.
and with fusion getting closer to development, though still at least 10 years away from availability, the future remains quite clouded.
