In voting for an independent they've voted for someone who will determine matters according to their conscience. In this case that resulted in 2 of the 3 independents guaranteeing confidence and supply to the ALP, but not committing to support all their legislation. The 2 independents who sided with the ALP had every right to do so, just as the other independent had very right to side with the conservatives.
