It's actually the opposite of what you say. Electric motors last a lot longer than ICE engines. EVs should stay on the road for twice as long as ICE vehicles.
There are some caveats. The first one is planned obsolescence, which has been a fine art in the car industry for around a century. ICE manufacturers pioneered it, we need EV manufacturers to abolish it. Unfortunately one of Elon Musk's major inspirations is Steve Jobs and Apple, a modern pioneer in selling an expensive piece of junk which can't be repaired, and is turned into a fetish object where part of the consumer worship ritual is to throw it away and get a new one every couple of years. Musk would love a Tesla to be an iphone in car form. His $15000 software "self-driving" (pffft!) updates are like an istore app. The strategy it not about technology, it's about ruthless, unethical lust for profit and world domination, the sort of thing that happens when you have zealous deregulation to "let the market decide".
The other caveat is that while electric motors last for ages, batteries will need to be replaced at least one during the lifetime of the vehicle. But battery technology should improve dramatically. We can reasonably expect cost, range, weight, charging times, and longevity of batteries to improve so quickly that it will be absolutely no contest, an EV will be the normal cheap car, an ICE car will be an expensive niche within a few years.
