I don't think any of us dispute that the market is manipulated. It particularly seems to happen in the mining space. It's shameful that shorters are able to manipulate the share price on tiny volume trades. I can't see any reason why the rules that apply to retail investors around minimum marketable parcels should not be applied for ALL investors including institutions. Why should AI bots get an advantage over Mum and Dad investors? If we want to promote trust and confidence in markets why would we not create an even playing field?

Having said the above, these manipulations (maybe with the exception of the persistent management of the paper gold price) tend to be relatively short term. The institutions seem to have the green light from regulators to lead the market around by the nose and make money on the short side with predatory practices and on the long side also.

The key is probably to hold your nose and keep buying. Whilst I get frustrated like everyone else at the rampant manipulation, I think when you find the right long term story, you just need to ignore the manipulation and see it as an opportunity. If a price is being held down, then that actually presents a longer term opportunity to build a position at a good price. Someone who has some idea about shares once said "In the longer term the market is a weighing machine". A strong gut trumps a strong intellect in the market in the long term.

In the simplest of terms, if you accept that there is going to be a substantial increase of electric vehicles in the years ahead and that they will require significant amounts of copper and lithium. If you accept that there is going to be a supply shortfall of those minerals. Then the commodity prices of those minerals will need to increase to reflect the supply demand dynamic and promote mining companies to increase the supply. If you hold those views and buy into the current weakness then the longer term picture looks very bright. The mining services business gives cashflow to grease the wheels until production and the fundamentals and commodity prices match up. GLTAH.
