I noted your comment re the choke size:

"re choke, the mind boggles, or at last my mine does, the size is about the same as a drinking straw."

I nearly choked on my chocolate milk when I thought of about 100 bopd and 120,000 cubic feet of gas coming through the tiny orifice of a straw - hey! we're talking about million dollar holes and giant rigs in an oil/gas discovery.

I did a little calculation to check your hypothesis:

7/64ths of an inch is 0.109375 inches which converts to a piddling 2.78mm diameter choke.

I googled straw sizes and came up with the following:

" The size of the straw is determined by the straw's diameter listed.

Large Straws: ~ 9mm and larger
Medium Straws: ~ between 6mm and 9mm
Small Straws: ~ 6mm and smaller

Please note our straws are also available in solid or striped colors as well as flat or diagonal cut."

Let's forget about the colour and note that the 2.78mm choke size is less than half the diameter of the smallest straw available from a wholesaler...a 6mm choke is about 4 times the area of a 2.78mm choke. The next test results will be interesting indeed.

As the production release said:

"Over the coming days, we are expected to open up the choke to wider settings and measure higher flow rates and at different pressures to determine the optimum production rates.

As with any new discovery, caution is being taken during the early period of production."

Caution is needed to prevent, amongst other things, water coning that can kill a well; but, it looks like the operator is very competent.
