My understanding of 3D seismic is that it would have still never avoided what has just occurred as it doesn't' show you where water contacts lie more it can show you the lateral extents of the reservoir and possible best net pay sands lie (i.e. on the 2D contour map they know the depths of the Kingia sands but wouldn't know where the best net pays were on the same contour gradients. All explorers eventually find the GWC through multiple wells and probably more they didn't have an understanding of the faulting in the block properly where the FWC lay at different levels between faults, but all this new data will probably give them a better insight ?
