"l don't want to see nuclear dumps anywhere in Australia.". ...... fair enough. its a safe bet any business of gov org would not want you to see such a facility either. there's enough grief at Pine Gap with all the, shall we say, interest. the desire to see.
yet I think we are in a excellent environment to provide such a necessary recycling operation. ethically, its necessary as nuclear waste is mostly stored in unsuitable environments which presents risks of greater threat to the community.
now the numbers for such a plant do stack up. high tech facility training nuclear scientists and highly skilled technicians supported by a better educated workforce. university links and attracting earnings for university facilities attached.
yes it would be a crime to merely store radioactive material in a dump.
