Just to touch back on the Jefferson comment, and if someone knows more than me feel free to correct me.
I was under the impression Jefferson stopped the trading of slaves and believed in the current economy down in southern USA that the slaves would be more educated, fed and housed as 'slaves' to farmers then to be homeless dying in the streets.
