You’ve nailed it. Lack of Liquidity. Their greed has put them in a precarious situation.
IMO, if they had kept the short position at 10% or less, they may have had a chance of exiting without a commotion but no, they let greed take over and took the fickle liquidity out.
What they are now faced with is stubborn, astute, resilient holders who don’t need to sell.
