The places we are building to live in doesn't pay us a dividend or give us rental income, I wouldn't call that an 'investment disaster' just because it doesn't! notwithstanding there may be far better opportunities out there outside of property, if just focusing on return only! I only continue to buy houses to live in because I just dont want to be a renter, I like having the certainty of being in my own place and doing things to it and not having to meet inspections or the constant moving from place to place as owners sell.

I live in my house or rent a place to live, one or the other, so it does pay a dividend. If I wasn't living it it, I'd have to rent, and around here any kind of decent rental property is $1,000/week.
