I am guessing that Lynas was purchasing the sulphuric acid from BHP's Kalgoorlie nickel smelter as I believe BHP had a sulphuric acid plant there.
Maybe that part of the plant could be kept operational and some jobs kept. Be interesting to know if they may have been supplying any other local company's.
