Honestly, John seemed like a miracle worker I am unsure how he managed to achieve what he did, inheriting a business on the brink of bankruptcy with a board and management team with no real experience. Wouldn't surprise me if he was against this bricklet deal (rightfully so) and the board wanted it to go through and that's why he left.
