More than that, a licence purchase by WD would be market validation of the tech. i.e. a significant player is willing to pay for the tech. Therefore it must be legit.
Say NVIDIA has only just heard of 4DS. Decides, the tech's got potential but let's see what PL6 brings. Then they hear that WD has bought a license. That would be a motivation to look more seriously at the company.
