"I don't know if he is all that hell bent on taking all of Ukraine... it's hard to tell now what he thinks". .. fair enough, what he thinks is likely to be different to what he says. but he made this assertion at the start of the war. so I took this as his plan. others (analysts) have asserted more concretely, more definitively..... many I've listened to or read have cited examples of his actions from Georgia and Crimea. but he actually said he wanted to regain the "glory" of the former USSR, albeit without the communist policies of Lenin/Stalin.
