Pretty simple explanation the upper reservoirs are at hydrostatic pressure (or "normally pressured" in oil field parlance, with heavy oil they will have zero pressure at surface and with no ability to pump no need for a separator....why people on this forum expected natural flow to surface is way beyond my knowledge I'm an engineer not a psychologist! It will flow with a pump....and yes pumping is 100% normal in the industry in this sort of reservoir setting they can use Beam Pumps (Nodding Donkeys in the US or PferdKopf if you have worked Germany), though I think here they might look at surface motor Progressive Cavity Pumps (PCP a sort of elastomeric screw pump) to get a better drawdown, though if the Inflow characteristics are OK they could go for big rates an Electric Submersible Pumps (ESP). It will all be down to the flow characteristics, equipment availability (have Russian or Chinese) and the economics.

The deeper formations are geopressured (which is why the previous well was TD'ed where it was) so it will likely test with pressure at surface, hence the "high pressure separator" it is normal practice so definitely not something they would need to announce and it has arrived ontime. I expect it is a rental from the well test service company (which is something you would normally do when testing) so you want to minimise the time it is on hire....though given this is Cuba it may have been purchased it to use in an early production system, in which case they have it at the right time....so good planning.
