just trying to figure out the favoritism side - surely they don't care about "favouring" imec - I mean we have a deal with them for multi million euros plus a capped royalty up to €5m, they're already the favourite.

maybe they mean any research they publish there's a risk that imec could take a narrow focus (e.g. talk about it as a technology for a market segment) - and favour a segment we don't yet know we want to pursue.

i think it's good to keep it a commercial arrangement - make us these chips and no white papers till we know exactly what we have. When the time comes you drop the results and the big fish will bite.
