"....Ukrainians have picked their own leaders..." Yep. After an illegal armed US-backed coup which overthrew a legally elected government in an unconstitutional manner, with the help of US-funded far-right organisations.
"...Ukrainians don't want anything to do with russia..." Which ones? The ones in Crimea, DPR, LPR? Besides, many Ukrainians don't want anything to do with Nazilensky's man-eating regime, that's pulling people off the streets by force to send them to their deaths in front-line trenches. Millions have fled, and keep fleeing all over the place.
Besides what do these alleged statistics really mean if they come from such a corrupt country as Ukraine? Barely anything. Statistics can be manipulated and twisted in any way, to support whatever narrative you're trying to push.
