Yep it's a myth that hard work and sacrifice is the way to get rich. Sometimes it is, but many rich people become that way by all the other means you mention in your post and have never done a hard days work in their lives.
The rich in Australia have it easy...no need to live behind high walls with armed guards at the gate or be surrounded by body-guards in public like the rich in many other countries. Our welfare system is a major reason the rich are safe in this country and they should be happy to pay the taxes that keep things that way.
