According to the SA energy minister, exporting green iron and steel (not hydrogen) is one of the goals for the $600mil hydrogen project in Whyalla. However they went for electrolysis due to plenty of nearby flat unused land and sunshine for solar, and taking a punt that electrolysis costs will come down. It's also expected, as per the article, that green steel will fetch a premium due to tariffs places on dirty steel. Incidentally, Whyalla is also connected to the main Moomba to Adelaide gas pipeline, so Hazers methane pyrolysis could've worked too if they'd already proved their process at scale.
