Macron is certainly behaving as if his core motivation is jealousy against Putin. Putin has turned Russia around and made it a formidable economy and military force in the world. As a consequence Putin will go down in history as a great Russian leader. On the other hand Macron has achieved very little except pissed off most of the French people and his only historical legacy will be a footnote, noting that he is the 25 President of France (I had to look that btw). So yeah he's extremely jealous of Putin
