ATM I can't think of a single 4WD ute or American pickup that is actually available in RHD but your mate must have found one or is he directly importing a LHD version. By the way the nearest charging point is wherever you can access the mains grid, I suspect that is less than 2 hours away.
And fitting a genset in the tub is a very poor move efficiency wise, if you want to burn fuel in an ICE to make power just use it directly in a conventional vehicle. There is no point in burning fuel in an ICE to make electricity to charge a battery to then provide motive power, that's nearly as bad as using electricity to make hydrogen to use in a fuel cell to provide motive power.
