    DJ,

You would need to perforate the well and then frac it and then set it up for production with the good old donkey pump or other means of artifical lift.

Means getting at minimum a workover rig on site. Given that it is a remote location and the only rig out there is the drilling rig they are using, it will probably be that one. So assume about $20-25k per day as rig rate.

After perforating, where you basically shoot bullets into a predetermined zone of formation, they might try flowing it but not definite. If they decide to frac, then the $$ will mount. Typically fraccing and bringing a well up to production costs 2-3 times what it cost to drill. Let's call it $3-4 million. I have seen leases with fraccing crews and there is barely any room to walk around there is so much equipment.

The aim with fraccing (fracturing for completeness) is to induce fractures in a zone of interest by pressuring a zone already perforated with water in the drill string. Your lithology will determine the fracture pressure. You also need to pump a proppant, typically small plastic spheres to prop the fractures to keep them open.

I would expect they would drill Surprise-1 (It would be a surprise if they didn't hype it up), shoot their seismic and then see from that data if it is worth going back to JW-1.

If it is on the margins of what they define as the field, they might not go back to it.

If anyone has more to add or to make corrections, feel free.

PS: Can I put down "Not happy Jan" as my sentiment?????
