    Quebec to China is about 10,500km give or take.
    Australia to Europe is about 14,000km give or take.
    Australia to China is about 7,500km give or take.

    Australia to Europe can land any where between USD$40-100/t depending on port location in probably todays market for bulk products (not containerised). Your referenced article suggested $300/t which is 3-8x more on 20% lower distance. That is bonkers just for FUEL cost alone. If you factor in port cost, loading cost, insurance etc that could easily go north of $350/t which for any company shipping out of Quebec means they are losing money.

    2021 and 2022 freight cost skyrocketed due to supply chain issues (as reported in alot of articles). Maybe not a surprise of it were that high. But 2023 was a much better market with slight increase in 2024 due to Red Sea. In 2023 cases where freight company was offering a substantial discount to market rate isn't unheard of due to China (and other countries) was importing much less and they needed to move the vessels.
