The question of what any individual investor can ‘afford to lose’ is up to each person. For some people losing even a small amount could set up a chain of bad events that causes their whole life to fall apart, while for other people losing all their savings makes no real difference at all to their happiness.
The only advice I can give any investor is to consider the consequences of the worst outcome and make sure you are OK if this happens.
