EVs are just part of the culture wars now, it doesn't matter how good they are to drive, what their deficiencies are in range and price, it doesn't matter whether they have a meaningful effect on CO2 and climate change. If you are a RWNJ redneck you hate them, if you are a woke greenie you like them.
If EVs are so wonderful, why do governments have to force and coerce the general population into adopting them?
Either with legislation, or Bowen/Bandt type new taxes.
Where is the force? Where is the coercion? These are words from the RWNJ redneck side of the culture war. The ICE and fossil fuels industries are supported by tax breaks, subsidies, government assistance. Without the steadfast backing of Chifley and other leaders, the first Holden would never have been made. You could equally ask why did the government have to force and coerce Australia into making Holdens in 1948? Why is the government now forcing us to have so many big utes on the road by giving tax rewards for supposed business use, when people are clearly using them for leisure?
