The media announcement this morning by the Princess of Wales sharp on the heels of King Charles has brought cancer into great international focus … again. It’s really interesting to observe that something we all take for granted being our privacy, is actually a treasured commodity. Of course we can be subjected to fraud and hacking, but very few of us (if any) would need to be worried that some individual would proactively seek our medical information for personal gain. Informing loved ones and friends about ill health is one’s last vestige of control in many cases. Let’s hope that the intense media scrutiny abates as she moves through treatment but it seems unlikely given how photographs of the Princess looking unwell will command a high price. I doubt that sensitivity will prevail.
