I think the technology will be particularly suited to the production of mid-stream lithium chemicals in Northern Quebec (James Bay).
The region is well served by hydroelectricity but the sites are located in environmentally sensitive wilderness.
It is hard to see that lithium hydroxide refining would be considered up there but the lighter environmental footprint of mid-stream Calix refining might be acceptable.
The Nemaska project now owned by Arcadium will send spodumene concentrate by truck and rail to the industrialised southern part of the province at Becancour, a distance of about 900 km.
This is not ideal, as 95% of the concentrate is waste.
If the ore mined in James Bay could be processed into mid-stream lithium phosphate, much less waste would end up down south and transport costs would be greatly reduced.
