I'm not arguing against the idea of converting more of the energy in a fuel into usable electricity. I think the benefits are self-evident in reduced emissions/MWhr and shifting peak-loads.
The thrust of my comment was no-one quite knows yet if/how the new world of distributed energy, smart and bleeding-obvious meters, electric vehicles and all the new smart gadgets will work and at what cost. Dare I say it, the new paradigm has to be worked through.
