Municipal majority can stop detailed plan for graphite mine in Vittangi, page-42

"Talga is not shocked by the fact that Kiruna municipality wants to stop the mining company's investment in a graphite mine outside Vittangi.

Emma Själin, Public Affairs manager at Talga, says that it feels sad, but the municipality's plans do not change anything for the mining company at the moment, as the ball is currently in the government's court.

As stated, it shouldn't come as a shock - we've known about this for over a year now.

Municipalities have a planning monopoly, however this authority fortunately has limitations and the national government can and will overrule. This sounds like common sense, but in my research over the last year I did read some conflicting information that caused some doubt. I'm pleased to now have confirmation that this is indeed the case and view this as progress for the detailed plan. We can now move past the municipality that has been slow walking the process, and onto the government, who will drive the plan through and avoid any further delays outside the Supreme Court decision.

@neutro You must be familiar with this type of story. Your LKAB went through a similar process in 2020, the government straightened it out pretty quickly:
