Great points and just imagine the massive savings on ATO and Centrelink costs.
Governments love housing cost increases as the tax on purchases, sales and mortgages are alone a big impost on home ownership.
We also need to look at Local council processes. My builder had to send an office employee to the Council Office for a full day to take the house plans from one office to the next for building approval otherwise it would have taken 2 weeks with their internal document transfer system.
It also cost the builder a lot of extra expense because they made him redo the plans because the council building approval required the front bedroom to be extended forward the width of 1 brick to improve the look from the street. So much expense and fees in this area could be cut from the cost of building housing at the local council level as well. The whole affordability thing is a complete mess in my opinion.
