0 Viral load is a cure. However, with the nature of HEP C and its destructive effect on the liver (scarring/cancer), ongoing symptoms will be present in advanced cases. BIT225 will not affect cirrhosis or cancer, as it is targeting the viral ion channels, and patients may still need ongoing therapy.

However, if all goes to plan, BIT225 will be administered before advanced liver damage is incurred in future patients. As HEP C is often asymptomatic, there will most often be at least some level of liver damage.

If BIT225 can demonstrate in vivo results that match the in vitro results, it will be viewed as a cure. This would be a revolutionary shift in modern medicine. An effective antiviral treatment is basically the modern equivalent of the advent of antibiotics.
