The Isthmus is a seperate area to Hardstaff, it makes perfect sense to use the existing infrastructure on Cockatoo. Have a look at Irvine island, Isthmus is on a different level to Hardstaff, a haul road up to the next level would be a little tricky. It would not take much to build a barge "dock" on the end of Jonas point and an unloading point on Cockatoo.
As to costs, the barging and ship loading would cost approx $4/t, mining the DSO approx $4.5/t and $2/t for overheads, total Op Ex $11 per tonne .. see the Intersuisse report for this info, page 5. About $5 million to set up.
Barges can carry over 1000 tonne, not that they will need to be that big. Having 3 barges going would make light work of it, one loading, one unloading and one travelling. Night time is not a problem :)
2 million tonnes per year is only just over 6000 Tpd, that allows for a bit of down time for rough weather etc. I have used 330 days per year
So lets say $20 per tonne to give a little breathing room... 2Mtpa at say $120 per tonne, gives a profit of say $100 per tonne or $200 million a year !!
Sound too good to be true?? Lets see..
Good to see you having a break from the politics forum ;)
Cheers ..
